Summary

A four-line poem describing the burial of an infant and the reaction of other mourners to the grief-stricken father.

Commentary

A tiny poem, but it captures in a few lines the distance intense grief can put between outsiders and the person in mourning--"no one dares to come near him . . . . " Also--the helplessness of those who would seek to comfort someone in intense emotional pain.
