LEARNING GOALS: Participants will:

1. evaluate the literature on learning and health education both in context of the health care setting and the role of the physician.

2. apply the literature regarding health behavior in an educational context.

3. examine the concept of developmentally appropriate practice related to education of various target audiences identified for programming in Healthy People 2000.

4. examine the role of the physician as health educator and advocate both in practice and throughout the community.

C. Medical care, disease prevention and health promotion

D. Health education as health promotion

Week 2: (April 26)

A. Developmentally appropriate practice in health education

C. Health education and behavior change

D. Health promotion in the medical literature

Week 3: (May 3)

A. Health behavioral theories and health education

B. The physician as patient health educator

C. Health education in the primary care setting

Week 4: (May 10)

A. Health promotion in the primary care setting

B. Services marketing and health promotion

C. The physician as health promotion advocate
